One of the most common questions in a car accident case is when to settle the claim. With mounting medical bills and lost wages, a quick settlement might sound like the best idea to alleviate some of your stress. However, it may not always be the best strategy.
The insurance companies always try to minimize compensation. Accepting the first offer from them is probably a bad idea. A better strategy is to wait and hopefully settle for more substantial compensation, which may take longer. This requires gathering all the information and evidence you can obtain related to your accident before making the claim. The more information you have, the faster your case can settle or go to court, if necessary.
Consider the following questions before accepting a settlement offer:

A slip and fall accident can happen anytime and anywhere, and result in broken bones and other serious injuries. The resulting medical bills can be extremely high. If your slip and fall accident occurs on someone else’s property, you may be able to recover compensation for your injuries from the property owner or manager. The things you do immediately after the accident can go a long way toward proving the property owner was at fault.
Here are some things you can do:
Seek medical attention: The first thing to do is get medical help. Seek medical help even if you believe your injuries are not serious. Injuries to the head and concussions may not be obvious until hours after the accident occurs. A medical report may be helpful when filing a claim.
Report your accident: Find the property owner or manager and let them know about your accident. If it happened in a store, report it to the store manager or owner. If it happened in an apartment building, report it to the building manager or landlord. You must report it to the appropriate person or authority. File a formal report and request a copy.
Collect witness information: If there were any witnesses to your accident, make sure you obtain their contact information including names, addresses and telephone numbers. Your lawyer may contact them at a later date to get their statements. Testimonies of eyewitnesses can be powerful evidence to support your claim.
Take photographs: Photos can be very useful in making your claim. Take photos of the object that made you fall such as a puddle, loose stair tread, torn carpet, slippery floor, etc. Take photographs of the general location and surroundings.
Document evidence: Your accident report, any written correspondence between you and the property owner or manager, and bills and receipts related to your medical treatment are important evidence. Keep them safe as these documents may help prove your case.
Hire an experienced attorney: Your best option after a slip and fall accident is to call an experienced slip and fall accident attorney. A lawyer can answer all of your questions about what to do and guide you through the process of filing a claim and proving liability.

Expert witnesses play an important role in personal injury cases. Their input and perspective can be invaluable. Personal injury lawyers often turn to expert witnesses for their opinions on complicated cases.
Many types of expert witnesses are used in personal injury cases. The following are the most common:
Medical experts provide expert opinions regarding the severity, cause and expected the outcome of injuries.
Psychologists and mental health experts are helpful to those who have suffered psychological, mental or emotional harm. These experts testify regarding the effects the injuries had and how they will impact the victim’s life in the future. They are especially important when seeking compensation for non-economic losses.
Financial experts provide expert opinions on the value of lost wages and the loss of earning capacity suffered by victims.
Accident reconstruction experts investigate accidents in full and rebuild them piece by piece to determine the precise cause. They also guide courts through what happened by painting a picture of what went wrong.
Design and manufacturing experts offer insights as to whether or not the designers and manufacturers of products are to blame for any defective product that may have caused the accident.
By proving negligence: Personal injury cases are based on the theory of negligence. To prove negligence, a plaintiff must prove that a defendant had a duty but breached that duty. Determining whether a defendant had a duty, and if he or she breached that duty, may be challenging. Expert witnesses can help by providing evidence of negligence.
Clarifying evidence: Personal injury cases often involve evidence which may be complicated and difficult to understand. Expert witnesses are familiar with these issues and can help bring more clarity.
Clearing up ambiguities: Expert witnesses can help clear up ambiguities by offering insights that may not be readily apparent to non-experts. They can also emphasize the correct facts and evidence.
